Good Candidates for Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal has become an extremely popular option for both women and men. The improvement of laser hair removal technology makes it an attractive idea for people who no longer want the hassle of unwanted hair and the shaving, waxing, or tweezing that comes with it. Virtually anyone who feels self-conscious about unwanted hair is a candidate for the procedure. Because the system works by targeting pigment in the hair follicle, the best candidates are people with dark hair and light skin.

Popular Laser Hair Removal Treatment Areas

Laser hair removal is safe to address unwanted hair on practically every area. Popular treatment areas include:

  • Face
  • Underarms
  • Bikini area
  • Back
  • Legs

What Is LightSheer Laser Hair Removal?

We use the LightSheer Duet laser hair removal system because it’s extremely effective in the hands of experienced technicians. It reduces treatment times compared to most other lasers and most patients report minimal discomfort during the procedure.

Your Laser Hair Removal Procedure

Patients wear dark glasses to protect their eyes during the procedure and a gel is applied to cool the treatment area. A special handpiece delivers the laser energy, which is customized for optimal results. This innovative handpiece also cools the skin while the energy is being transmitted to the hair follicles. The hair’s pigment absorbs the heat, which then damages the hair follicle, and multiple follicles are disabled with each burst.

The laser is carefully calibrated so that tissue surrounding the hair follicles is unharmed. The treatment targets only hair follicles in the growth phase, leaving dormant follicles unaffected. That’s why multiple treatments are needed to get the best results. The number of treatments varies, but generally, 4 appointments spaced several weeks apart will disable the vast majority of hair follicles in a single area.

Laser Hair Removal Recovery

Patients typically return to their normal daily activities after a laser hair removal treatment with the LightSheer Duet system. Redness and inflammation in the treated areas are normal and may last up to 24 hours before going away. It’s important to stay out of the direct sunlight for a few days following your treatment. Because your skin will be more sensitive, avoid swimming in chlorinated or saltwater for about a week.

How Long Does It Take for Laser Hair Removal to Work?

Hair will gradually diminish after each session. After your initial series of treatments is complete, you will likely need to return once a year or so for touch up treatments.

Frequently Asked Questions

What areas can be treated with laser hair removal?

We use the LightSheer Duet for permanent hair reduction on all parts of the face and body. Legs and arms are probably the most common for women, while men come in to have hair removed from their backs and chests. The bikini area and women’s breasts are other common treatment sites.

Will the hair grow back?

We don’t promise 100% hair removal because some hair regrowth is to be expected. Even after a full series of treatments, many patients will see the return of some hair, but it’s typically much finer and lighter than before. That’s why we recommend follow-up spot treatments periodically to keep hair growth in check.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

As with most cosmetic treatments, the discomfort experienced varies from patient to patient. Most patients compare the sensation of laser hair removal treatments as similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin.

I have lighter hair. Can I still get laser hair removal?

The laser beam used in the treatment focuses on differences in pigmentation. That’s why patients with dark hair and light skin benefit the most. However, today’s technology has improved the efficacy of laser hair reduction for people of various hair and skin types and colors. Consulting with a physician is the best way to find out if you’re a good candidate for laser hair removal.
