What Chrissy Teigen’s Story Says About Breast Implant Removal

Celebrity Chrissy Teigen makes news for a lot of reasons, including her well-publicized decision to have her breast implants removed. Since she made that announcement, people have claimed she actually didn’t go through with the procedure. That led the supermodel to post a discreet photo of the scars on her breasts as proof on her Instagram account in July. At a time when breast revision and explant (implant removal) surgeries are in more demand, Teigen’s post provided evidence that women’s breasts can still look great after undergoing either of these procedures. It also highlights a trend of celebrities and other … Continue reading

Post-Lockdown Plastic Surgery Boom? It’s Real

Apparently, spending hours staring at ourselves on Zoom meetings has led many of us to notice facial features we’d like to change. Plastic surgery practices in Houston and throughout the U.S. are seeing a bit of a boom in post-lockdown consultations for both surgical and nonsurgical facial rejuvenation procedures. In fact, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) recently surveyed more than 1,000 people to gauge their perceptions of plastic surgery during the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization found that “49% of those who haven’t had plastic surgery indicated they are open to cosmetic or reconstructive treatment in the future. Of … Continue reading

Less Is More: The Rise of Subtle Breast Augmentation

Is a C cup the new D cup? Breast augmentation remains one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures performed in the U.S., but an increasing number of women are seeking results that look more natural. That’s certainly a trend we’ve seen among breast augmentation patients at our Webster and Houston, Texas, practices. There’s a decreased emphasis on creating cleavage and more of a desire for shapely, sloping breasts. The overfilled look popularized 20 years ago by celebrities such as Pamela Anderson in “Baywatch” has been replaced by more modest goals that look more like Taylor Swift. Bigger Isn’t Always … Continue reading

Don’t Mom-Shame the Mommy Makeover

Many of the women we see for mommy makeover consultations at our Webster and Houston, TX, locations are worried about what their friends and family will say about getting plastic surgery to address the changes to their bodies caused by pregnancy and breastfeeding. Even though there is less of a stigma surrounding cosmetic surgery than 10 to 20 years ago, it still exists to some degree, especially for mommy makeover patients. People posting on social media may say that women should just accept the changes, which can include excess abdominal skin and saggy or deflated breasts. Sometimes they also claim … Continue reading

What to Know If You’re Considering Breast Implant Removal

Removing breast implants is something that an increasing number of women are considering for various reasons. Statistics released earlier this year by The Aesthetic Society show breast implant removal surgery increased nearly 35% from 2018 to 2019 and 80% since 2015. Those are eye-catching numbers, to be sure, but it’s also important to remember that most women are satisfied with the results of breast augmentation surgery. At our Houston, TX, practice, we honor your decision to remove or exchange your implants. Even though health concerns related to breast implants have gained attention during the past year or so (we’ll discuss … Continue reading

Choosing a Mommy Makeover Before Reaching Weight Goal

Many people considering plastic surgery turn to internet resources such as RealSelf because they provide access to information directly from board-certified specialists. Women who are considering Mommy Makeover surgery in Houston commonly ask on RealSelf if they have to be at their goal weight before undergoing the procedure that includes tummy tuck surgery. As you might guess, the answer is a bit more complicated than simply yes or no. It is best if you are at your ideal weight and, more importantly, in good overall health. But there’s more to determining the best time for getting surgery such as a … Continue reading

ThermiVa® vs. Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation

During the past several years, we’ve seen the popularity of nonsurgical vaginal rejuvenation procedures at our Houston practice steadily increase. The number of treatment options provides patients with choices that can sometimes be confusing. Even though there are various treatments available, there are 2 types of technologies used for nonsurgical vaginal rejuvenation procedures. These 2 technologies are radiofrequency (RF) and carbon dioxide lasers (CO2 lasers). Each of the technologies offers benefits to patients who want to address concerns such as vaginal dryness, atrophy, urinary leakage, or orgasmic dysfunction without surgery. Both types of treatment use heat. The device uses the … Continue reading

Benefits of Breast Revision Surgery

Even though the vast majority of women who get breast augmentation surgery—both in Houston and around the world—are happy with their results, most of them will need implant revision surgery at some point. Breast implants are more durable than ever, but they aren’t designed to last for multiple decades. How long do implants last? There isn’t a definitive answer, but most patients replace their implants 10 to 20 years after their breast augmentation surgery. Many women who had the first generation of silicone gel implants inserted after the FDA re-approved them in 2006, for example, are now getting breast revision … Continue reading

Symmastia is a Rare, but Fixable Complication of Breast Augmentation

In very rare instances, Symmastia can occur as a defect of breast augmentation surgery. When implants are inserted too close to the midline of the body, it causes a lifting of the skin away from the chest, creating an unattractive connected appearance sometimes referred to as “breadloafing.” Symmastia can also occur as a rare congenital defect in which soft tissue connects, or webs, both breasts together at the sternum (breast bone). Symmastia seems to be more prevalent among thin women, mostly due to the minimal tissue and/or fat covering the sternum. In our experience, Symmastia generally occurs due to aggressively cutting open the chest muscle during an … Continue reading
