BOTOX® & Fillers

Injectables such as BOTOX® Cosmetic and JUVÉDERM® have become increasingly popular at Houston Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. These remarkable products soften lines and wrinkles, smooth out irregularities, and create youthful contours with little to no downtime. Many people choose to combine BOTOX (or Jeuveau™ or Dysport®) injections with dermal fillers for a “liquid facelift” that can take years off in a subtle, natural way.

Our medical spa offers a range of facial fillers and wrinkle smoothers for suburban Houston residents who want to polish their looks without surgery. BOTOX Cosmetic, Jeuveau & Dysport

Neurotoxin injections are the most popular cosmetic procedure in the world, probably because they give you a lot of “bang for your buck.” Jeuveau and Dysport are very similar to BOTOX, as they all use purified forms of botulinum toxin type A to temporarily relax the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles.

It’s important that the treatment is performed by a trained injector who targets the tiny facial muscles with precision. Our Houston med spa is supervised by our team of plastic surgeons, and most of our injections are performed by our licensed registered nurse injector.

Common areas treated with BOTOX, Jeuveau, and Dysport include:

  • Horizontal forehead wrinkles
  • Vertical lines between the eyes often called “frown lines”
  • Crow’s feet around the eyes

The results of these injections aren’t immediate. Patients who get botulinum toxin injections typically notice a difference beginning about 3 days after treatment, and it usually takes 7 to 10 days before the results are fully apparent. The effects of both products typically last about 4 months, although each patient’s experience is unique. We recommend touchup treatments every 3 to 4 months in most cases.

Common Questions About Wrinkle Smoothers

Will I be able to make my normal facial expressions?

Yes, your face will still be animated because only very specific muscles are weakened. For example, you won’t be able to make the scowl that forms your vertical frown lines, but you can still frown, smile, and raise your eyebrows.

Is it safe to inject a neurotoxin into my face?

Yes. Variations of the botulinum toxin have been used therapeutically since the 1980’s, and they have been approved for cosmetic use for more than a decade. Of the millions of procedures performed, there have been very few adverse reactions. Up to 5% of people may experience mild injection site bruising or headaches. To put it into perspective, BOTOX has a much better safety profile than aspirin.

Fillers

Dermal fillers are an excellent cosmetic treatment for patients who want to improve their looks but who aren’t ready for more invasive procedures such as eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty or a facelift. Although the results are temporary, filler treatments are lasting longer than ever and are very popular among our Houston-area patients. Our product offerings include JUVÉDERM, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC, Restylane®, and Revanesse®.

JUVÉDERM — JUVÉDERM products use hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance found naturally in the human body that helps plump and hydrate the skin, giving it a youthful appearance.

As we age, the amount of HA begins diminishing and our skin becomes “deflated,” causing it to droop and form lines. JUVÉDERM fillers are silkier than most fillers and are an excellent choice for treating wrinkles and fine lines, such as nasolabial folds and lines around the mouth and chin. It is also used to give lips a fuller look and to restore volume to areas of the face that have a sunken or flattened appearance.

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC is the only filler approved by the FDA specifically to treat the cheek area, and it is clinically proven to last up to 2 years.

Restylane — This product line also uses HA to fill in wrinkles and add volume to areas such as the lips. Restylane is used to treat moderate wrinkles, such as lines around the lips and the nasolabial folds. Results typically last 6 to 12 months.

Revanesse — We also also offer Revanesse Versa™+ and Revanesse Lips™+. Both are HA dermal fillers.

Revanesse Versa+ is designed to smooth lines and wrinkles, including nasolabial folds and marionette lines. This filler also enhances facial volume for a fresh and youthful appearance.

Revanesse Lips+ focuses on restoring lost volume and creating fuller-looking lips, providing a natural and plump look that enhances your smile.

Common Questions About Fillers

How long do filler results usually last?

It depends on the filler. Most hyaluronic acid fillers produce results that last 6 to 9 months, depending on the treatment area and the patient. VOLUMA XC has been proven to last up to 2 years.

How can I avoid puffy cheeks or “duck lips?”

The key here is to find an experienced, highly skilled injector. Our nurse injector has been using these products for years, and her aesthetic eye and skilled hands produce subtle, natural looking improvements. You can see our patients’ remarkable results in our before-and-after gallery.

Combining Treatments

We often recommend a customized treatment that combines injectables with other nonsurgical treatments, such as ThermiSmooth® Face at our MedSpa to address a patient’s specific needs and achieve a more complete facial rejuvenation.

KYBELLA® is an FDA-approved injectable treatment to reduce the appearance of a double chin. For many women, permanent makeup such as eyeliner or lip color performed by our certified medical micropigmentologist, Sherah, makes an attractive accent. Injectables are also a nice adjunct to surgery, and many people use them to enhance or prolong their surgical results. Your physician will help you decide whether or not injectables are a good choice for your needs.
