Hand Lifts are Becoming the Latest Rage

Selfies are becoming more and more ubiquitous among today’s society. The efforts made to stop this are far and few. Those that have tried have failed valiantly. Now the selfie trend has transitioned into another realm. Imagine you just received a 3.9 carat princess-cut, platinum engagement ring with a diamond band. But your hand looks scaly and there are sunspots dotting it. Maybe the skin is not tight in the right spots, it’s a bit wrinkly.  You can’t post a picture on instagram or facebook with your diamond engagement ring and have wrinkles or sunspots.

This is exactly what Marie Valencis thought. She wanted a hand make over. Doctors are reporting that more and more newly engaged women are coming to their offices specifically with the hand selfie in mind. We have already reported previously that it is not just hands but many other people coming in seeking plastic surgery to alter other parts of their body specifically for social media.

Marie Valencis opted for a few procedures. She opted for a series of six intense pulsed light (IPL) and chemical peel treatments. In addition to this were two syringes of an injected gel substance called Juvederm Voluma XC for a total of $3,000. Juvederm does not freeze the muscles like Botox, but it treats the wrinkles by restoring lost volume. Patients are able to move their hands right after they receive the procedure. After these procedures, Marie Valencis now believes that her hand will be suitable for posting on social media.

Dr. Ariel Ostad, the creator of the “hand lift”, has a service specifically for this purpose. The engagement hand lift will last about 9 months and cost you $1,200. The doctor has estimated that there has been a 40% increase in these procedures since the rise of social media and selfies.

With these procedures it is important to first check with your doctor before performing these procedures and make you aware of any risks and complications that may arise.
