Genital Surgeries: An Increasing Trend and Other Headliners

Learn more about the latest popular plastic surgery procedure.
An increasingly popular trend among females involves permanently changing the look or feel of the genitalia. This has been spurred by the increased availability of pornography and other explicit images which show “better looking” genitalia. It has been reported that these procedures do carry various risks and do not show any improved sexual functioning or self-esteem. The procedures are widely advertised across the internet and some physicians reported performing as many as 200 per year.

This increasing trend seems to be a result of decreasing pubic hair in the locker room. In recent years many women have opted to shave their pubic regions and thus show much more in the genital area. Now that we can see everything women become much more self-conscious about it.

One of the more common procedures is the “labiaplasty”. Labiaplasty involves altering the labia minora (inner labia) and the labia majora (outer labia), which are the folds of skin that surround the vulva. This procedure can cost on average about $3,500. A couple of the other procedures involve tightening the vagina and injecting filler inside the G-spot to make it bigger and supposedly more sensitive.

In other news, Christie Brinkley, the former Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model, turns 60 tomorrow. She hasn’t had plastic surgery yet but would consider it. She mentions to people magazine that there are so many non-invasive choices that address sagging, wrinkling and discoloration that she doesn’t have to yet. Her beauty secrets include getting “special facials” once a month in order to smooth out any wrinkles. She says that her secret to staying youthful is a vegetarian diet, daily workouts which include: spinning, running, lifting weights, calisthenics, and yoga.

In addition to this, the DIY plastic surgery craze has still been sweeping Asia. Many of these teens want to become “pretty” but don’t have the funds to do this. Some ridiculous products include:

Scalp Stretcher: Intended to give you a facelift every day, this product pulls your face taut from above the ears.

Smile Trainer: a silicone retainer that will press your lips into a smile that attempts to form a natural grin after 5 minutes of application each day

Nose Slimmer: a device that is clipped inside your nostrils to push up the bones and contours of your nose. It is designed to make noses straighter and slimmer instead of being round

It is important that none of these devices have a scientifically validated evidence for their claims and they should not be used. In the end, these are a waste of money and you can hurt yourself or cause permanent scars that would cost much more to fix than the device that was purchased.
