Now there is a Yelp for plastic surgeons. The website is called RealSelf – where you can research treatments, get personalized answers from medical experts, and choose from over 12,000 board-certified doctors for your procedures. RealSelf was founded in 2006 and since then has created the world’s largest community for sharing information about cosmetic surgeries.
The service aims to connect people looking to go under the knife with the doctors who perform the procedure. Since there is a large stigma associated with plastic surgery this site allows you to review surgeries anonymously if you wish to.
You can search for procedures near you and get a list of doctors in the area with a number of reviews. It even shows a “worth it rating” which shows the percentage of individuals who approve of the surgery. It also shows the average cost of the surgery based on the reviews that have been posted. Some doctors have special offers that include: “Free Consultation if you mention RealSelf” , “September Specials”, “Buy One Get One Frees”, and various other discounts. For doctors, this site can be invaluable for them as they use this as a marketing tool.
Clicking on a particular doctor you can ask to request a consultation; see the number of reviews they’ve received, and before and after pictures. You can rate a doctor on the following: overall rating, doctor’s bedside manner, answered my questions, after care follow-up, time spent with me, phone or email responsiveness, staff professionalism and courtesy, payment process & wait times. There is also a Q&A section where you can ask doctor(s) questions regarding your concerns.
In addition to all of this, there is RealFriends community who are a select group of RealSelf community members who have been chosen to share their own experiences and welcome new members to the site. These are also members have been very vocal about their procedures and have often “blogged” their procedures and recovery processes.
