Worried about your complexion? Not to worry, here are a few tips that will help you improve your appearance.

  1. 1. Drink Green Tea

Tea has anti-inflammatory properties which can be soothing. It can reduce red or blotchy spots. Iced tea is probably your best bet since it can hot teas can worsen redness. Also certain properties in green tea may help prevent collagen destruction. Collagen destruction leads to wrinkles.

  1. 2. Don’t Stress Out

According to a study done at Stanford University, students who are more stressed about exams have more severe acne breakouts than those who weren’t as stressed out. To keep stress under control and maintain healthy skin, you should practice stress management techniques. These techniques may include yoga, deep breathing, and meditation.

  1. 3. Watch Sun Exposure

UV B rays do not pass through glass, these are ones which make you burn/tan. However UV A rays will pass through glass. These are rays which can cause damage to your skin and result in more wrinkles. If you plan on sitting at an office desk near the window or in your car for an extended period of time, it is recommended you use sunscreen.

  1. 4. Dairy Intake

Teenagers who consume a lot of milk are 30 percent more likely to have acne than those who drink less according to research done by the Harvard School of Public Health. Skim milk seems to pose much more of a threat to your skin’s complexion than whole milk. This seems contradictory since there is more fat in whole milk vs. skim milk. Scientists don’t fully understand why there seems to be this connection. However, it should be noted that cottage cheese, instant breakfast drinks, and sherbet are also linked to acne.

  1. 5. Get a Good Night’s Worth of Sleep

Sleeping allows your body to repair your skin. If you don’t get enough sleep it puts stress on the body causing it to release more adrenaline and cortisol. These can cause breakouts and many other skin problems. Make sure to get a good seven to eight hours of sleep every night in order to obtain healthy skin.

  1. 6. Check Your Medications

Some of your medications can be causing allergic reactions in your skin. These can cause breakouts that are visible. If you find that your skin is reacting more often while taking a certain type of drug or moisturizer/facial cleanser you should talk to your physician regarding this.
