Some of you may be wondering why there was an increase in a number of plastic surgeries. Well, some say it is the baby boomer generation. As they get older and older they also want to look younger longer. Many of them are undergoing facial rejuvenation as can be seen by the large amount of surgeries that are minimally invasive (botox, tissue fillers, chemical peels, facelifts, etc.).

The other reason for the increase in plastic surgeries is due to the advancing technology. As the technology improves procedure are quicker and recovery times are much shorter. Surgeries that barely existed in 2000 such as the lower body lift and upper arm lift are starting to become more popular in 2013. They also become much cheaper and more easily accessible to the general public. Plastic surgery is no longer something relegated to the upper class, but middle-class citizens can also have similar options.

In other news, buttock enhancement surgeries are also becoming big business for plastic surgeons.  Celebrities such as Beyonce and Kim Kardashian have “well-rounded” rears and have been featured very prominently in the media. All this hype has made many Americans seek to have their buttocks enlarged.  In 2013 alone there were about 10,000 buttock augmentations performed, which is up from 8,500 in 2012. The more common augmentation method is called the Brazilian Butt Lift which takes fat from a person’s stomach, thighs, or hips and is reinjected into the buttocks. Patients lose and gain fat in all the “right areas”. Expect to see more and more women requesting larger butts in 2014.
