How to Sleep After a Mommy Makeover

It’s important to get plenty of rest after any plastic surgery procedure. As we often remind our Webster, TX, patients, good sleep is the first step in happy, healthy healing. But sleeping after a mommy makeover can be a slightly difficult experience. Some patients have a hard time finding a comfortable position that best supports their body.

Don’t worry—sleeping after a mommy makeover doesn’t have to be a challenge. In this blog post, we’ll go over some easy ways you can make your nights as comfortable as possible.

Sleep in a recliner at first

While your first urge may be to lie down in bed, you might want to think otherwise. Sleeping in a recliner after surgery helps minimize swelling and fluid buildup and supports your upper body and abdomen during the first couple of days. It also makes standing easier and discourages muscle strain in your treated areas.

Later, sleep on your back

After a few nights of sleeping in a recliner, you can safely head back to bed and sleep on your back. This position avoids putting pressure on your chest and abdomen that may be uncomfortable or compromise your results. Use pillows under each arm to prevent you from rolling onto your side or front. You can do this before your surgery to practice if you feel it will be an unusual transition.

Wear supportive garments while you sleep

Your doctor will provide you with the proper supportive garments to wear after your mommy makeover. These items will protect your treated areas, keep everything in place, and help minimize swelling. Your surgeon will provide guidance as to how long you’ll need to wear these garments. Be sure to keep them on in bed and don’t remove them for sleep, unless your surgeon tells you otherwise.

Cut down on sleep inhibitors

Proper sleep is one of the most essential parts of recovery. But caffeine, alcohol, sugar, and screen time can keep you awake and make it difficult to get the rest you need. Instead of using these products or distractions, focus on eating nutrient-rich foods and drinking plenty of water. Your body will thank you when you can easily drift off once the sun sets.

Move around during the day

Actions during the day can affect your rest at night. Short walks throughout your daily activities can help circulation and regulate your sleep schedule. Using up excess energy can make it easier to fall asleep when necessary. Listen to your body, and don’t overexert yourself as you gradually become more active.

By getting proper rest and a good night’s sleep, you’ll be able to have a smooth, safe recovery. Browse our mommy makeover before-and-after photo gallery to see examples of the results patients can expect once they have recovered.
