Why Fall is the Best Time for Laser Hair Removal

Considering laser hair removal? Here in Webster, TX, we tell our patients not to wait ’til swimsuit season to start treatment. With the right planning, smooth, hairless skin can begin long before swimsuit season and last longer after it. Now may be your perfect time to get started.

Here are a few reasons why the fall is the best season for laser hair removal.

It will be easier to avoid sun exposure.

Laser hair removal works by targeting and destroying selected hair follicles to stop or slow future hair growth on a long-term basis. Avoiding direct sunlight is essential after treatment, and this is much easier to do during colder months. You’ll be more likely to bundle up and cover your skin or stay indoors and avoid exposure altogether.

This makes fall a great time for other skin rejuvenation procedures as well—chemical peels and some light-based treatments also require limited sun exposure during recovery. Learn more about these treatments in our previous blog post.

You’ll have plenty of time to get the best results.

Laser hair removal sessions are typically spaced a few weeks apart, and we often recommend a series of 4 appointments for the best results. This means it may be a few months before your treatment is fully complete. Starting in the fall will allow you plenty of time to schedule all your sessions and fully heal from them before the warmer months arrive.

You probably won’t be swimming.

Your skin may be sensitive after treatment, so avoiding salty or chlorinated water is essential. This may be difficult to do if you’re planning to spend time at the pool or the beach. Having your treatments done when you’re unlikely to be swimming will make keeping your skin safe much easier. You won’t have to miss out on any summer fun to enjoy smooth skin.

Your summer tan will have faded.

Laser hair removal works best on those with light skin and dark hair. If you have tanned skin and sun-lightened hair, it may be more difficult to achieve a great result. The contrast between skin and hair pigmentation is increased during the fall and winter, making it easier for the device to effectively target each follicle.

You’ll be on schedule to get touch-up treatments in late winter.

We typically recommend maintenance touch-ups once a year to keep your skin as smooth and hairless as possible. If you finish your initial treatments in the late winter, you’ll be on schedule to get annual touch-ups at this time. This will help you heal and look freshly smooth just in time for spring each year.
