Permanent makeup, also called medical tattooing or micropigmentation, provides a lasting way to enhance your appearance. At Houston Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, our exceptional MedSpa staff includes Sherah Juarez, a certified medical micropigmentologist (CMM) and a true master in the art of permanent makeup. She uses state-of-the-art techniques and technology to enhance facial features, and conceal scarring or areas of thinning hair.

To find out how permanent makeup can enhance your look, request a consultation with Sherah using our online form or call  (281) 282-9555 for an appointment.

What Is Permanent Makeup?

This procedure is a form of tattooing during which pigment is placed beneath the outer epidermis into the dermal layer of the skin. Results are typically softer than with regular tattoos and continue to fade in intensity over time. Many people get touch-up treatments every couple of years.

What to Expect

Before scheduling your appointment, you will have a personal consultation with Sherah so she can determine whether you are a candidate for the procedure, explain how it works, and provide instructions on how to prepare.

The day of your appointment, we recommend arriving with the areas cleansed and free of makeup and lotions. A topical anesthetic is applied to reduce discomfort; however, certain areas such as the lips are more sensitive than others. The initial treatment takes about an hour. To prevent infection and attain the best results, follow your aftercare instructions carefully.

Initially, expect the color of your tattoo to be quite dark because the pigment is in both the dermis and epidermis. Within approximately a week, the epidermis will be shed and the tattoo will lighten to a soft, natural look.
