1. Treatment Mechanism

  • Chin Liposuction is a surgical procedure that physically removes fat through a thin tube (cannula) inserted beneath the skin. At HPRS, we perform chin liposuction while you’re under local anesthesia with sedation. It typically takes less than an hour to complete.
  • KYBELLA is a nonsurgical injectable that uses deoxycholic acid (a molecule found naturally in the body) to break down fat cells under the chin over time. It involves a series of injections.

2. Downtime & Recovery

  • Liposuction of the chin usually requires a few days of downtime and may involve wearing a compression garment to minimize swelling. Mild bruising and soreness are common but resolve quickly.
  • KYBELLA requires minimal downtime, but patients often experience noticeable swelling in the treatment area for several days after each session. Since multiple sessions are needed, your overall treatment period is longer.

3. Candidacy & Ideal Patients

  • Chin liposuction is ideal for those with moderate to large fat deposits and good skin elasticity, especially if you want immediate and dramatic results in a single session.
  • KYBELLA is best for patients with mild to moderate fullness under the chin and those seeking a nonsurgical option. It’s also a good fit if you prefer gradual improvement over time.

4. Results & Longevity

  • Double chin liposuction offers near-instant results, with continued refinement over several weeks as postoperative swelling subsides. Once we remove the fat, it does not return, provided you maintain a stable weight.
  • KYBELLA results develop gradually over 2 to 6 sessions, spaced about a month apart. Like liposuction, KYBELLA permanently destroys the fat, but visible changes take longer.
